Well, now it looks like paleontologists digging in North Dakota at a site named Tanis may have found evidence of the season, day, and hour of the Earth's disaster. Not only that, but they have also discovered the sequence in which the asteroid impact disaster unfolded.

The asteroid hit in the spring in the Northern Hemisphere with round impactite melt-glass spheroids cast all over the area, and even embedded in the gills of fish, just before a massive wave of water buried everything including the fish. Scientists suspect there are more sites in vicinity of Tanis are yet to be found.
